Transforming Your Family Dynamics: A Path to Understanding Generational Mindsets”

The effects of divorce, caregiving and other personal challenges can limit your thoughts and words, keeping you in a “less than” mindset, when the reality is, you were born and established with inherent gifts and talents.

Fact: From the moment you were born, the words, thoughts and actions you heard in your family began to teach you about the world, yourself and others.

Little by little, through the years, your family shapes you into who you become as an adult. Listen…I’m talking about inherited family convictions; good, bad and other.

The dialogue and actions taken or avoided in your family, can become how you see and interpret life unknowingly.

You may adhere to the beliefs, assumptions and interpretations you’re exposed to, even when on the surface, you’ve questioned some of what you heard.

Three strategies you can use to evaluate the health of what you were taught:

• Analyze recurring thoughts or beliefs to determine if they help or hinder your personal growth. Explore from where the thoughts originate and how they impact your growth and development.

• Seek to broaden your perspectives by intentionally creating your own community of individuals with diverse thoughts who challenge your ingrained beliefs, when appropriate. This exposure can broaden your thinking in a constructive manner.

• Explore the generational journey of your family. Learn about the traditions, values and decisions that have been passed down. Is it growth oriented or is it a hindrance?

To live in ways beyond the limited expectations you may have be sure to listen “When Your Soul Whispers, so that you can amplify the positive impact you can make in the world.” Page 87 in my book.
